The closest brushes with perfection came under older formats: the 1972 Miami Dolphins won every game they played — 14-0 in the regular season and 17-0 overall once the playoffs were done — and the 2007 New England Patriots went 16-0 before losing the Super Bowl. In today's format, 17-0 is the regular-season perfection nobody has reached.

The 17-0 challenge is a football roster builder in the same family as the viral 82-0 basketball challenge.
