The 16-0 Season: 2007 Patriots

For most of NFL history the regular season was 16 games, so a perfect record was 16-0. Only one team ever did it: the 2007 New England Patriots, who went 16-0 behind an MVP season from Tom Brady and a record-setting offense — before losing Super Bowl XLII to the Giants. That heartbreak is why 16-0 still carries weight: it's the perfect regular season that didn't end perfectly.

How the 16-0 Challenge Works

The slot machine deals you a random franchise-and-era combo, and you draft one player from that team into each roster slot. Legends from across NFL history are in the pool, each carrying a real statistical line from his era, from Montana and Rice to Brady, Manning and Mahomes.

Fill your roster and the engine simulates all 16 games. Quarterback play and both lines carry the heaviest weight, and one weak position is usually the gap between a strong season and a perfect 16-0. Spend your re-rolls where the roster is thinnest.

The NFL expanded to a 17-game schedule in 2021, so today's perfect regular season is 17-0 — no team has done it yet. 16-0 remains the historic mark from the pre-2021 era, owned solely by the 2007 Patriots.
